The song is inspired by the story of Alice Marie Coachman, the first African American athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in the high jump discipline in 1948. Alice's story is that of a wrestler who, in addition to having to deal with the rampant racism of those years, also finds herself having to stand up to her father, who didn't want his daughter to waste time training and chasing boastful dreams, even forcing her to train in secret and with bare feet as he did not even allow her to buy a pair of shoes to be able to practice the discipline. However, all these difficulties have never stopped our Alice, they have only increased her ambition and determination that have taken her where no one had yet managed to get, to win an Olympic gold medal. This is why we pay homage to her story with this song and tell her story so that she can be an example for all those who are forced to deal with hatred and difficulties: "Even if you see me barefoot, I will be able to FLY!"
